Rhoda Morgenstern, Mary Richards, and Phyllis Lindstrom of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. These beloved characters live on even though Valerie Harper, Mary Tyler Moore, and now Cloris Leachman have shuffled off their mortal coils.

Cloris Leachman as Frau Blücher in Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein. Leachman’s commitment to character was always absolute and she never let you catch her trying to be funny. She just was.

Leachman as the sadistic Nurse Diesel in Mel Brooks’ Hitchcock parody High Anxiety. Brooks expected Leachman to deliver another variation on Blücher. Instead, she created a brand new character.

#5: Mr. Rogers Documentary

It’s been three years since my last TPOU installment. Wow, time sure flies when you’re binge watching Netflix shows and taking power depression naps.

All the while, I never stopped thinking about TPOU or jotting down ideas for potential strips. But I wasn’t sure if I could ever carve a path back in. See, I am a mystery even to myself. The way my brain works, I mean. Sometimes, even the most simple task (eg, washing the dishes or taking a shower) seems impossible. Undoable. Just contemplating it locks me up with anxiety.

And then suddenly and without warning something clicks and it’s all easy peasy. I never thought I’d be able to jump start my brain back into TPOU but suddenly, here I am. Hi!
